ALTERNATIVE HANDBALL

ALTERNATIVE HANDBALL

Detail:

  • Players work in two teams, with the pitch size reduced.

  • Players can only move the ball with their hands, through throwing & catching.

  • If holding the ball, the player is not allowed to move and must stay in their position.

  • Players can only score with a header or with a volley.

  • Throw-Ins & Goal “Throws” to be taken if ball leaves the area.

Progression:

  • Progress to “Throw-Head-Catch” to encourage third player runs as part of the build-up play.

Coaching Points:

  • Movement off the ball to receive must be effective, as the player on the ball is not able to move.

  • Communication to call for the ball and pass information over to teammates is key to maintaining cohesion, especially when adding in the third player runs.
