CAMDEN Town WFC have told fans to watch this space as their management outlined the dream of scaling the full football pyramid and taking the team to the Women’s Super League.
The team lead the Greater London Women’s Football League with a 100 per cent record after securing a 1-0 win against Leyton Orient on Sunday with a goal from striker Saffron Jones.
Now chairman Richard Mahoney is ignoring nay-sayers who claim it is impossible to take a team once playing on the muddy fields in Regent’s Park to the top of the game.
Instead, he wants to put the name Camden Town – usually better known for music and nightlife – well and truly on the sporting map.
In an interview with the New Journal, Mr Mahoney said the club would be following a 10-year plan of trying to win promotions every other year.
He said: “A season is a story. It’s a movie that hasn’t been written. We want everyone to see how seriously we are taking the games. How much effort we are putting in to promote the club. It’s a lot of fun, and we get the sense the players are really buying into it.”
Upcoming home matches include a fixture with South London on October 13 and the appetising arrival of Luton Town Reserves on November 3.
